Eversheds surprise the City with profit increase.
One of the UK's largest law firms, Eversheds, have announced a 28% increase in partners profits. Despite being one of the hardest hit firms in the recent economic recession and having to cut 730 jobs, the legal giant has had to adopt a "singular focus" to increase margins and prevent financial disaster.
The CEO, Bryan Hughes has said to the Times that some of Eversheds' departments came to a complete standstill, and that these were "some of the worst trading conditions we will ever have to work through". However, Mr Hughes then went onto explain how the recent restructuring has left Eversheds in a very strong position as the market is slowly recovering.
This is potentially good news for current students intending on entering the legal profession. Eversheds are the first of the top 20 firms to release their full years profit figures, and a performance above par, has left the legal profession contemplating higher recruitment numbers in the coming year. A clear sign that the largest law firms are making it through the recession and into clearer waters.
